Bed Bugs a Problem? We Have You Covered!

March 12, 2020
by Caitlin Gillum

The resurgence of the bed bugs has created significant concern in the pest management industry and in society overall. Controlling, let alone eradicating, this pest is extremely difficult, as bed bug resistance to insecticidal control measures to date is significant.

Since bed bugs are hitchhikers, it is not uncommon for an employee to transport bed bugs from their home to work. If you think you might have bed bugs in the work environment, immediate attention to the problem is required. Bed bugs can be very disruptive to a business and could lead to a shutdown of the site if not addressed immediately.

Although bed bugs can dine on any warm-blooded animal, they primarily dine on humans. Bed bugs do not transmit diseases, but their bites can become red, itchy welts.

  • Vacuum suitcases after returning from vacation.
  • Check your bed sheets for tell-tale blood spots.
  • Consider bringing a large plastic trash bag to house your suitcase during hotel stays.
  • Carry a small flashlight to assist you with quick visual inspection.
  • Never bring second-hand furniture, especially mattresses and box springs, into a home without thoroughly examining for signs of a bed bug infestation. You might consider having a pest control professional inspect the furniture, as it is difficult to detect an infestation if you are untrained.
  • Regularly inspect areas where pets sleep for signs of bed bugs.
  • Seek professional pest control to address an infestation because bed bugs are elusive creatures.
